What is FireSign?
FireSign is dynamic digital signage software.
When combined with your hardware FireSign gives you
everything you need to create, schedule and control
messages anywhere. Whether you want to promote, sell,
direct, or simply inform, FireSign is the right choice.
FireSign gives you the ability to send the same
message
to multiple displays in multiple locations. Or you
can have a different message for each display. Either
way,
your message gets to the right audience, at the right
time.
What’s the advantage
of using FireSign? Why
not just connect a DVD player to all of my displays
and play a DVD video of my message content?
A DVD presents the same message on all of your displays.
Your messages play in a continuous loop regardless of
the time of day or who is watching. If the DVD player
stopped working, all of your displays go blank. Plus
you have to author and burn a new DVD every time you
want to make a change to your message. FireSign gives
you the ability to send a different message to each
display in your environment, change your messages on
the fly, schedule messages for specific displays at
specific times, access and control your system remotely
across a network, and be comfortable knowing that a
single point of failure within your system will not
result in every display going blank.
What types of media does
FireSign support?
To provide maximum flexibility in creating message
content, FireSign supports text, bitmap images, digital
video,
digital audio, and animation media files.
Can I interrupt a FireSign
Player to display a different message for an emergency
or special bulletin?
Yes. Player Schedules can be overridden in real-time
with an Interrupt Segment that can be selected from
any existing Segment that fits that Player’s orientation
and aspect ratio. This Interrupt Segment will play continuously
until you deactivate it, at which time the Player will
revert to playing its assigned Schedule.
What are the FireSign system components?
A typical FireSign system will consists of these components:
> One or more PCs running FireSign Player software
with appropriate displays connected
> One PC running FireSign Server software (this
will be located at FireSign, Inc. if you are using
a hosted
system)
> One or more PCs with web browser running the FireSign
Studio web application
> All computers connected via wired or wireless
LAN with a discrete, static IP number assigned to the
FireSign Server.
Does FireSign, Inc. sell hardware?
No. We provide the FireSign software and work with
end-users to develop content for their FireSign system.
We partner with our resellers who are hardware
suppliers and system integration specialists to provide
all of
the equipment and installation services needed for
a complete FireSign system.
Can customers use existing
hardware?
Yes and no. As far as computers are concerned, FireSign
Studio is designed to run on your existing PCs, as
long
as they meet the minimum system requirements. FireSign
Server and Player have very specific hardware needs,
and are only supported when installed on equipment
that meets our specifications. Concerning displays,
existing units can be used as long as the display hardware
(including the video card in the PC) can accommodate
the resolutions that are output by FireSign Player.
FireSign can accommodate most of the popular display
resolutions that are currently available.
What types of displays can
FireSign use?
The FireSign Player can deliver messages through a variety
of devices including plasma/LCD/CRT monitors, televisions,
projectors, and video walls. Virtually any display device
can be used that can accommodate the FireSign Player
PC’s video card signal output. In a nutshell,
any display that has a VGA connector can be used, as
long as the device supports a display resolution that
FireSign can accommodate.
Can I connect more than one display to a single player?
Yes. Player output can be replicated through audio/visual
signal distribution hardware if needed, resulting in
the same message being delivered to multiple displays.
The number of displays is only limited by the signal
distribution hardware. Keep in mind that multiple monitors
connected to a single Player must all be configured
with the same orientation (landscape/horizontal or portrait/vertical)
and aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9).
Can I copy the FireSign
Player software to another computer to get more display
capability?
No. The FireSign Player software uses a hardware
authentication in the form of an encrypted USB key.
This key contains a unique ID number. Your
FireSign system is configured to only recognize
Players with the specific ID numbers that are assigned
to you. If you copy the Player software to another
computer,
it will not run without the proper associated key in
place.
Can I use the FireSign
Studio software on more than one computer?
Yes. FireSign Studio software may be
used on as many machines as needed. Any
machine running Studio must have IP/Internet access
to the FireSign Server. The FireSign system administrator
can set access
privileges to determine what functions each user of
your FireSign system is allowed to perform.
Does FireSign, Inc. offer
custom content creation?
Absolutely. With support of the FireSign Ignitor team,
creating powerful, custom messages is easy.
If you can think it, we can create it. We has
worked in all types of communications media for companies
of all sizes. With our expertise your messages will
be attention-getting, effective and unique – regardless
of your audience.
Can I create my own content?
Yes! You can create messages using the built-in authoring
tool called “Layout” in FireSign Studio
with text and individual media elements that you
import.
Using applications such as Macromedia Flash, Apple
Final Cut Pro, and Adobe AfterEffects, complete messages
and
commercials can be created outside of FireSign Studio
as animations or digital video files and imported
for
use.
Will network problems or
a machine crash in the FireSign environment bring down
the whole FireSign system?
No. The Players in a FireSign environment store all
media, content, and schedules locally. This means that
all Players will continue to deliver their assigned
messages even if the entire network including the FireSign
Server goes down. A problem with one Player will not
affect other Players in an environment.
Is there a warranty
for FireSign?
Yes. FireSign, Inc. warrants that, for a period of
six (6) months from the date of delivery (as evidenced
by a
copy
of
your signed final installation approval document or
invoice): (i) when used with a recommended hardware
configuration,
the FireSign software will perform in substantial conformance
with the documentation supplied with the Software;
and
(ii) the physical media on which the Software is furnished
will be free from defects in materials and workmanship
under normal use. Hardware warranty information is
supplied by system integration partners (resellers)
at the time
of installation.
Is documentation included
with the system?
Yes. HTML help files are included and
are accessible from within FireSign Studio, FireSign
Layout, and FireSign Server. PDF user guides with
all reference, installation, and
system
configuration information are also provided. FireSign
customers and resellers have access to up-to-the-minute
information via their private account on http://www.firesign.net.
